Very nice day; a few more people than usual; many boats in Siletz Bay, fishing or crabbing; the colony of harbor seals had abandoned their usual resting spot at the end of the Salishan Spit probably due to all the activity; occasionally one would pop up in the water

Very nice day; a few more people than usual; many boats in Siletz Bay, fishing or crabbing; the colony of harbor seals had abandoned their usual resting spot at the end of the Salishan Spit probably due to all the activity; occasionally one would pop up in the water
Conditions
Temperature: 63 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 2.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 12. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 10. Playing in sand: 2. Other Activities: 1 jetskier in waves. 200+ people estimated on the north side of the Siletz bay/river - we did not walk that side.

Notable Wildlife
2-3 flocks of 30 or so small plover-type sand birds; NO SEALS at the end of the spit in their usual spot ... but there was more-than-usual beach activity and several power boats in the bay ... probably scared them away.

Total dead birds: 5. 4 gulls, 1 murre

Styrofoam. 1 bag normal bottles, wrappers, etc.; 1 large piece styrofoam

Not a bad fall day for a walk with our out-of-town visitors, but walking the beach was impossible due to the high tide and big waves, which were reaching the beach grass area and bouncing large pieces of driftwood around.
