NO PEOPLE!

NO PEOPLE! NO DOGS! NO SEALS! NO TRASH! A pretty dull day on the Salishan Spit. It was sunny but I think the cold north wind kept people off the beach. There were no harbor seals at their usual resting place at the tip of the spit. but I spotted about 20 in the water hunting fish. An estimated 95 people and 3 dogs on the Taft side of the Siletz River mouth but we did not walk that side.

Visible retreat of solid bluff.
Pretty beach day but no one here
Driftwood structures built by summer visitors are not uncommon
Spotted more than one harbor seal in the water but none on the beach
Steep drop-off at the north end of the Spit ... sand cliffs like this come and go with the seasons

Our mile has become very hard to get to, as most of the beach accesses in the Salishan community have been eroded by a combination of king tides and winter storms.

The marine layer stayed offshore while we were walking our mile so it turned out to be a nice day.

This dispatch covers the entire spit - miles 237, 238, 239 There were no remarkable events: people, nature, trash, marine life It was just a wonderful walk to the tippy end of the spit, where a crowd of lounging dudes greeted us. We walked out three miles on the ocean side and walked back through the neighborhood, which borders the bay side.
