A pleasant calm day on the holiday weekend. More beachgoers than usual on the Salishan Spit. Very little trash to pick up. Found 3 sand dollars, which is not common on this beach. We did not see any tar balls or oiled birds.

Temperature: 52 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 1.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 31. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 32. Other Activities: Kite-flying. Counted 32 people enjoying the beach on the Salishan Spit side of our mile (+ 6 dogs, well-behaved). Estimated 60 people and 7 dogs on the Taft side of the Siletz Bay river mouth.

Notable Wildlife
The harbor seals were in their usual resting place at the north end of the Salishan Spit, but there were fewer than usual - counted about 60.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass.
Natural Changes
There is a drop-off at the end of the spit between the nature trail and the beach where the seals hang out, but this is normal - comes and goes.

Not a bad fall day for a walk with our out-of-town visitors, but walking the beach was impossible due to the high tide and big waves, which were reaching the beach grass area and bouncing large pieces of driftwood around.
