Report Details

Mile 226 shows very little sign of human impacts due mostly to its inaccessibility: minimal access of bluffs from Otter Crest Loop and then extremely limited access from bluffs to shore.

Conditions

Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.

Notable Wildlife

Very little life observed of any type, other than vegetation on bluffs, which includes numerous wildflowers.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

none observed

Man-made Modifications

None

Natural Changes

Landslides/major boulder falls. Note: Boulder debris pile appears larger than on 3/22/08.

Actions & Comments

Coastal bluff area of mile is difficult to access from landward side, only one trail being actively used. Access from bluff to shore is very difficult and limited. Thus, human impacts to mile from land are minimal except for the trail and a fire ring. People were fishing for a short time from three small boats about one hundred yards offshore and there was one larger charter fishing boat there as well. A small Coast Guard boat patrolled through the area while I was there.Very little strand line is visible as tide was fairly high and coastal cliffs commonly rise directly from the sea.

It was a very pleasant sunny day and the ocean was calm, so visibility at and slightly below the surface of the ocean was excellent.
