Mile 220 Report
Yaquina Head north, Schooner Creek south
February 17, 2019
I wanted to take this survey on Feb.
Report Details
I wanted to take this survey on Feb. 14th or 15th--middle of the quarter but there was rain. This survey was taken the evening before King Tide. The winter has caused erosion exposing more pipes, more landslides, etc.Nice weather, a negative tide, and got several photos of sea stars--Lincoln County Historical map called this section Starfish Beach.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: -1.2 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 11. Number of dogs: 2. Playing in sand: 2. Tidepooling: 3. Other Activities: The 2 playing in/on sand where throwing Frisbee. The 3 vehicles were at NW 68th Street.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Just a few birds flying by.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea). The northern third has little plastic in driftline. The middle third has more plastic, while the southern third was cobble--so didn't really have a driftline.
New Development
Drainage pipes. Previous walk in November 2018 only had two places of exposed pipes. There are now four places of exposed pipes. Also the first place of exposed pipes now has a concrete pipe section on the beach.
Natural Changes
Landslides/major boulder falls, Major cracks appearing in bluffs, Newly exposed roots/trees falling. There is a major boulder fall just south on my normal beach entry point. There has been lots of erosion--although I didn't have to change my position to take photo of "keyhole"
