Report Details

A large amount of debris on the beach, more than 15 pieces that were over 50cm in length. Lots of rope from crab/fishing, an intact Pacific Seafoods white tote, 2 pieces of possible tsunami debris: 1 fridge or freezer (47cm square) with Asian characters on inside and biofouled as well as a red plastic gas can with Asian characters on it as well (see photos). I carried off 2 full bags of trash/debris as well as one of the conglomerations of rope. Alerted Fawn and Jesse about the above-listed items.

Number of people: 15. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 10. Still no parking at Schooner South due to the Substation Project, road closed.

Concerns

Disturbances: Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs

Total dead birds: 3. Unknown, greatly scavenged.

Driftline Content

Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). TONS of small plastics in the wracklines.

Natural Changes

Landslides/major boulder falls, Major cracks appearing in bluffs, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Erosion of vegetated foredune, Visible retreat of solid bluff.

There's a new deceased sea lion, about 1/4 of mile south from the 68th St access point, not too far from another now-decayed one that washed up about three weeks ago.
