December 9, 2024
I did not walk the entire length of my adopted mile, but had an enjoyable hour-long outing on my beach, which is from Davis Park to the north jetty in Newport.
Report Details
I did not walk the entire length of my adopted mile, but had an enjoyable hour-long outing on my beach, which is from Davis Park to the north jetty in Newport. There were thousands of rose petals washed up on the beach, and remnants of floral bouquets. All natural material, but quite odd, as if there had been a ceremony at sea at which flowers had been tossed overboard. There were also hundreds of marine animal parts washed up that I could not identify. I'm sure my fellow coastwatchers will enlighten me. The dead bird (pictured) was not identifiable because it was too far gone. (From CoastWatch Programs Manager: These are pyrosomes!)
Conditions
Temperature: 51 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 3.25 feet.
Human Activities
Many dogs and lots of dog poop near access points. About 25 people enjoying the sparkling sunny day.
