Report Details

Today was very nice on Mile 215. It is the first weekday of spring break 2026 and it did not seem to impact the beach. I think more people were accessing from Nye Beach, a little father north.

Conditions

Temperature: 53 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 5.75 feet.

Activities

Types of Activities: Walking/Running.

Number of people: 18. Number of dogs: 7.

Other Activities: Very concerning that we have nesting snowy plovers in the grasses and dunes in Newport right now - well all along the Oregon Coast - and people are not aware that they should stay on coast access paths and have dogs on leash unless well away from nesting areas. The signage does not work...we need to develop a better communication plan so people are encouraged to comply. If people are aware, I believe they willingly protect our coast and its inhabitants..

Notable Wildlife

Mile 215 was pretty clear of dead animals and trash.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Unusual concentration. As reported up and down the coast, millions of vellela vellela washed up.

Wrackline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings or molts, Wood pieces. Mostly organic material. Very little trash and plastic today.

Natural Changes

The large dune just north of the little waterfall is constantly shifting.
