Report Details
This time I concentrated on the area south of Henderson Creek where there is more activity. I also went to investigate part of Mile 212 which I hadn't done before. Coast is narrower so didn't explore too far south. Erosion there is worse with concern about houses on the bluff being too close to the edge. Photo submitted, & will be the last one. Beach was quite clean and probably because of the beach clean-up activities the previous Saturday.
Conditions
Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 6.6 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 7. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 7. Other Activities: None observed. nothing unusual. Just enjoying walking on the beach with/without dogs
Concerns
Notable Wildlife
9 gulls and around 30 small shorebirds in different groups. Photo submitted
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 1. From measurements taken i think it was a brown pelican. Photo submitted 0 South of Henderson Creek.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Unusual concentration. dead Velella velella everywhere. i have seen them in the past but not in such concentrations as today. Photo submitted
Driftline Content
What was unusual were logs lining the wrack line horizontally. Used to seeing piles of logs/etc jumbled but this was obviously arranged like protecting the sane dunes. Photo submitted
New Development
Drainage pipes. Photo submitted
Man-made Modifications
New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Already mentioned are beached trees arranged horizontally and guessing for dune protection
Natural Changes
Don't recall seeing basalt/lava rocks being exposed as much on previous visits. Used to sandstone continuing to break down. Photo submitted
