Mile 210 Report
Lost Creek Wayside south, Lost Creek
February 17, 2019
We saw very little wildlife on our walk but it was the middle of a sunny day and there were many people out on the beach rock hunting so I'm sure that had some impact.
Report Details
We saw very little wildlife on our walk but it was the middle of a sunny day and there were many people out on the beach rock hunting so I'm sure that had some impact. As noted in our previous report in December, a lot of sand has washed off the beach, presumably due to wave action during storms. This has exposed large stretches of small rocks and cobbles making it attractive during low tide to people looking for agates.
Conditions
Temperature: 45 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: NW. Tide Level: 2.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 44. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 2. With the exposure of rocks on the beach, I assume due to storm waves temporarily removing sand, there have been more and more people rock hunting during low tide. Certainly we have seen more people during these winter months than during the summer when the beach is sandy.
Vehicles
Notable Wildlife
Very little wildlife seen on this survey. Maybe the occasional gull or crow flying but that was it. No carcasses on the beach.
Driftline Content
Small rocks, Shells, Wood pieces. We collected a grocery bag full of trash - mostly plastic water and juice bottles.
Natural Changes
Continued light erosion of the bluffs along the beach. Nothing significant but bits of debris such as mud rock deposited on the beach here and there.

It was a very stormy day but since it was so late in the year we wanted to do a survey while the tide was low, regardless of the weather. There was one place where there was recent erosion of the cliff.

We have noticed that during the winter storms the sand on the beach moves (presumably offshore) and then is redeposited during spring.
