Mile 210 Report
Lost Creek Wayside south, Lost Creek
December 30, 2018
We noted a fair amount of bull kelp strewn about the northern part of the mile.
Report Details
We noted a fair amount of bull kelp strewn about the northern part of the mile. Not so much on the southern half. Many more small rocks and pebbles esp on southern half. Beach not as sandy as in the warmer months. People we met were enjoying their time on the beach with dogs and hunting rocks. All friendly and no issues noted (ie, dogs either leashed and/or under control, not chasing birds, etc). We took photo of the mile from the north end looking south and from the south end looking north. Also, 2 photos of the 2 dead Cassin's Auklets and of cliff erosion near house.
Conditions
Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 4.0 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 12. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 2.
Vehicles
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 2. Both carcasses were pretty decimated but both had blue feet (pictures attached) so we identified as Cassin's Auklet
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Wood pieces. Light to moderate amount of tiny worm casings. Also enough plastic litter for us to pick up including one fair sized piece of styrofoam (6" square), and a LED light tube. There was one pile of recent dog droppings.
Natural Changes
Erosion of vegetated foredune. One area beneath houses on the cliff showed recent erosion of soil (pic attached).

We have noticed that during the winter storms the sand on the beach moves (presumably offshore) and then is redeposited during spring.
