Mile 210 Report
Lost Creek Wayside south, Lost Creek
May 12, 2026
The day was calm and overcast with light fog.
Report Details
The day was calm and overcast with light fog. A few birds were on the beach and over the water. The wrack line contained a few shells, rocks and seaweed, as well as dried sea foam.
Conditions
Temperature: 52 F. Cloud Cover: Foggy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 4.5 feet.
Notable Wildlife
I saw 2 Brown Pelicans flying low over the water, about 50 ft from the beach. On the beach were 3 Whimbrels (separate, not in a group), 3 gulls, 2 crows and a small (4) flock of Pigeon Guillemots, flying between the water and the cliff along the beach (this was south of Lost Creek. I wonder if there are nesting guillemots there.)
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
There were some remains of Velella velella (By-the-wind Sailors) scattered on the beach not far from the wrack line. They were old - no blue color - just white and translucent remains.
Wrackline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Wood pieces. There were light drifts of yellow-green foam left from the water that had dried on the beach.

I reported that the weather was partly cloudy: large Cumulus clouds but additionally there was some light rain. The only live wildlife we saw were birds: Whimbrels, Crows, Western Gulls, and one Brown Pelican.

It was a very stormy day but since it was so late in the year we wanted to do a survey while the tide was low, regardless of the weather. There was one place where there was recent erosion of the cliff.
