I've visited this "mile" of beach many times over the years but this is my first regular Coastwatch report.
Report Details
I've visited this "mile" of beach many times over the years but this is my first regular Coastwatch report. Looking forward to many more on a regular basis. Usually, there is much more wildlife (seals, nesting birds in the rocks) but very quiet today. Pleased to see good starfish recovery, very little litter and debris.
Conditions
Temperature: 51 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Tide Level: -0.3 feet.
Activities
Types of Activities: Walking/Running, Fishing/Clamming/Harvesting, Tidepooling, Other - see below.
Number of people: 18. Number of dogs: 6.
Other Activities: Gathering mussels - 2. Tracks in sand evidence of one vehicle driving up and down the beach from Curtis St. access.
Notable Wildlife
Gulls - Western, California - 30+. Unidentified shorebird - 1 (possibly in the kingfisher family - flew by way too fast)
Wrackline Content
Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Shells, Animal casings or molts, Wood pieces, Marine debris. Small bits of plastic but far less than on past visits
Man-made Modifications
New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Photos show a poor, sloppy attempt at armoring using T-posts and treated lumber, not faring well.
Natural Changes
Landslides/major boulder falls, Visible retreat of solid bluff. Cliffside debris including two new large boulders down from cliff

Today I came across a small seal or sea lion about 4 feet in length washed up on the shore.

Walking my mile, I noticed a tiny spotted baby seal washed up inbetween some surf tumbled sandstone.
