The deserted beach and bay areas were covered with debris: impressive driftwood flows interspersed with human trash and European beach grass. Plastic, plastic, plastic!! Western Gulls staggered along both the shore and their dining table- full of rotting Harbor Seal. Wind driven hail, high waves, and rain. Lovely.

Western Gull mob feeding on dead Harbor Seal. Crows waiting for their turn to feast.

Stranded Marine Mammals

Total stranded mammals: 1. 1 decomposing Harbor Seal in the driftwood stacks below the housing area on the State Park side of the mile.

We went as a field trip with all our 6th graders from Crestview Heights in Waldport, Oregon. We did notice an abundance of what appeared to be new driftwood.
