Mile 198 - Beachside State Park to Reynolds Creek - May 1, 2009

Report Details

I saw no man made changes nor poor environmental behavior. Several families were already arriving to camp for the weekend. The winter has left copious amounts of driftwood. Had a Pacific Loon sighting at Big Creek. Packed off 5 lbs of litter.

Number of people: 15. Number of dogs: 3. Walking or running: 10. Playing in surf: 1. Playing in sand: 2. People were fascinated by the winters driftwood buildup. Campers arriving for the weekend at Beachside State Park.

Notable Wildlife

There was only one notable bull kelp bed. There was a Pacific Loon in the bay just off of Beaver Creek ( just north of Tillicum Beach).

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Small rocks.

Actions & Comments

The physical changes that I observed along the banks appear to be the result of winter high tides and undertow. Over the last 5 years the beach seems to be dipping to the west...in other words..you walk slightly downhill to the water...I notice this along other miles also. I packed off about 5 lbs of litter, primarily fishing debris.
