Wide distribution of logs along banks from high surf. One dead California Sea Lion. About 150 Sanderling foraging at waterline.

Human Activities

Number of people: 3. Walking or running: 3. Beachside State Park is still closed for winter, so no cars. We did see evidence that someone had been clam digging earlier in the morning.

Notable Wildlife

We observed a group of about 150 Sanderlings at waterline just north of Beaver Creek.

Stranded Marine Mammals

Total stranded mammals: 1. One dead California Sea Lion on the beach at high driftline just south of Beachside State Park.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

None, but sand fleas were prevalent.

Driftline Content

Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. Human based debris was actually light. There was quite a bit of small wood debris, twigs,etc.

Natural Changes

Erosion of vegetated foredune, Evidence of wave overtopping. Some slight slippage of vegetated foredune south of the park. There was evidence of wave overtopping on private land and most of the park for the whole mile...some torn vegetation. We also noticed greater numbers of big logs beached high up against
