Mile 198 Report
Beachside State Park to Reynolds Creek
February 10, 2008
A 1.
Report Details
A 1.3 tide allowed us to see stumpage of old trees, perhaps tsunami victims. The berms of clay and sandstone showed like little cabins in the woods. We only observed one species of bird--Western Gull. Betty and I packed out about 25 lbs of litter--primarily ocean based debris. We did observe one dead Western Grebe.
Conditions
Temperature: 45 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 1.3 feet.
Human Activities
Beachside Stae Park is closed in the winter.
Notable Wildlife
Not much seaweed or kelp and mole crab(emerita alalaga) were lacking.
Beached Birds
A probable Western Grebe at high driftline.
Driftline Content
Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Small rocks. Copious amounts of fishing debris..lines, rope, packing material, but not really as much styrofoam as usual.
Natural Changes
Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Evidence of wave overtopping. PLenty of wave entry into Beachside State Park with accompanying bank erosion and campsite damage. Near tide line there were several exposed tree stumps (perhaps from long ago quake-tsunami actions. There were also smallclay and sandstone berms vis
