Report Details

Strawberry Hill is one of the most beautiful spots on the Oregon coast, with very varied topography, a large resident seal population, and superb tidepools at low tide. The south and north beaches are very clean, though this time there was a large bundle of rope on the north beach. Erosion of the paths to the south beach has become severe and quite dangerous.

Conditions

Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 2 feet.

Activities

Number of people: 12. Number of dogs: 1.

Other Activities: hunting for agates. The dog was not on a leash, as required..

Notable Wildlife

There were 25-30 harbor seals on the rocky islands offshore from the parking area, as usual. There was a small flock of shorebirds on the north beach, which I have not seen here before. They may have been sanderlings but were quite dark.

Man-made Modifications

Steps down bluff. The steps down from the parking area are also quite eroded and are becoming rather dangerous.

Natural Changes

Other. As in the past, both paths to the south beach are very badly eroded, making them quite dangerous.
