Report Details

Beach very rocky, going right to the tide pools. Pigeon Guillemots all paired off but not showing signs of nesting yet. Other years they have been nesting in mid May. The 80 Surf Scoters we saw was twice the max we have seen since 2003 when we started doing this. The starfish were all farther out in the rocks than usual. Could only see them with binoculars.

Notable Wildlife

45 Harlequin Ducks, 80 Surf Scoters, 12 Pigeon Guillemot, 14 Pelagic Cormorant, 1 Double Crested Cormorant, 4 Barn Swallow, 1 Black Oystercatcher, 1 Starling.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

Large shrimp molt or die off in the tide line. They were all krill sized. Also amphipods (Grandifoxus grandis), both mostly at South end of mile. North might have been too rocky to see.
