A lovely cool day.
Report Details
A lovely cool day. No seals basking on the rocks which was unusual. A few dead seastars and large crabs, (6-7 inches across). Also the remains of a huge sea lion, mostly skeleton, was washed up high in the rocks. One new bird for our list, a Red Tailed Hawk. That is our 46th species. The beach was very clean.

12 Pigeon Guillemots, 11 Pelicans, 80 Surf Scoters, 4 Harlequin Ducks, 2 Barn Swallows, 1 Song Sparrow, 25 Pelagic Cormorants, 10 Double Crested Cormorants, gulls and crows. One Red Tailed Hawk, new for our list. Species number 46.
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. One skeleton of a sea lion.
Driftline Content
Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells. Almost no debris and trash. One fishing net. Beach clean.

When we arrived in the parking lot it was almost full but people seemed to be leaving.

It was a lovely day but the sand is gone from all but the first part of the beach so the rest is cobbles, making it hard to walk.

The day was very foggy so we didn't expect to see many birds but were very surprised to see 18 species, which has only happened two other times since 2003.

A sunny, very windy day that brought out a lot of people to enjoy the beach, mostly staying in the first sandy area.

It was a beautiful clear day and the wind only started up about 3 in the afternoon.

Florence had some rain but when we got to the mile it was just overcast and kept getting brighter.
