A quiet afternoon on Heceta Beach today.

A quiet afternoon on Heceta Beach today. Several large flocks (50+) of gulls heading north, one whale spout observed off-shore. An unusual large number of ochre sea stars were washed up today - an uncommon sight on this beach. Saw my first Brant waterfowl today, feeding in the Siuslaw River jetty area.

Notable Wildlife
Common loons, pelagic cormorants, harbor seals and a solitary brant feeding in the mouth of the Siuslaw River, nothing but gulls on the beach. today.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Unusual concentration. An unusual concentration of washed-up ochre sea stars - about 4-5 dozen across Mile 171. Lots of dungeness crab carapaces, some mole crab parts and a single northern kelp crab carapace.
