Windy day on Heceta Beach at noon. The summer "transverse" sand dunes are beginning to form. Numerous flocks of gulls and sanderlings either feeding or migrating northbound against the wind. An osprey and a common tern were busy plunging into the surf in the hunt for lunch.A recently deceased yearling steller sea lion is washed up at the high water line abouta 1/4 mile south of the Driftwood Shores Resort. No obvious pre-scavanger injuries or tags observed.
