Report Details
This is a beautiful, secluded beach, accessible from the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area. Only four other people were walking on the beach. There were numerous gulls, a large flock of shearwaters, and many, many dead jellies from at least four species. In the wooded part of the access trail just behind the beach there were a large, diverse number of beautiful mushrooms.
Conditions
Temperature: 55 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 4 feet.
Human Activities
Number of people: 4. Walking or running: 4. This is a lightly visited beach. There is very little human debris.
Notable Wildlife
There were many gulls and a flock of 100 or so shearwaters.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 3.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Unusual concentration. There were many, many dead jellies washed up on the beach, from what appeared to be at least four distinct species. See photos.
Driftline Content
There are many clam and mussel shell fragments on the beach but almost no human debris of any kind. It is a beautiful stretch of beach.
Natural Changes
In the wooded part of the Oregon Dunes Loop Trail, which provides access to Mile 157, there was a bewildering variety of mushrooms. Very beautiful!
