Report Details

Foredune modification by a bulldozer.

Conditions

Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Tide Level: 4.8 feet.

Activities

Other Activities: No one else on the beach from the Dunes overlook trail going to the beach to Tachenitch creekk. The sand had been bulldozed into a flat mound from the wrack line to the trees near Tahkenitch Creek. This might be part of a plant restoration effort. There were previously bulldozed areas that were showing signs of new grasses. There were also Oyster Shells concentrated over a 400 yd area on the bulldozed areas. Not sure how they got there but there were so many it looked like a past Oyster operation. I would be interested in knowing. Coastwatch note: oyster shell scattering enhances snowy plover nesting habitat and volunteers are sometimes needed in the winter for this project. Snowy plovers use shell detritus for nest camouflage. Thanks for the great question, Lyndell!.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

1 deceased sea lion

Wrackline Content

Beaches had been swept clean by the tide. Blowing sands were covering objects laying on the sand.

Man-made Modifications

Dune modification/removal. Sand had been bulldozed into a large raised flat area starting just past the wrack line all the way to the trees near Tachenich Creek. There was a large expanse that had been previously bulldozed into being flat and grasses were reappearing although sparse. Part of the area has large deposits of Oyster Shells scattered around. So many that I am thinking there had been a past oyster operation near there? I would be interested in knowing. The area that had been modified looked to be about 400 plus yds in length along the ocean and 200 yards extending east towards the creek.
