Beautiful day at the beach with lots of recreational usage going on by ATV enthusiasts, ORVs and street legal vehicles.

Beautiful day at the beach with lots of recreational usage going on by ATV enthusiasts, ORVs and street legal vehicles. Wrackline was mostly continuous with recent deposits of offshore flotsam covered in one inch barnacles. Mostly bullkelp plus other species and wood, bottles, and a few floats. Lots of invertebrate casings, sea stars, sand dolars and other shells also were present. Partial skeletal remains of a sea lion. One dead Common Murre. Heavy human impact (32)-2 walking and 30 riding ATV/OHV/street licenced vehicles in allowed area. Some evidence of fire wood gathering.

Number of people: 32. Walking or running: 2. Other Activities: ATV/full size riders. Pre-Fourth of July folks have arrived for beach and dune activities.

Notable Wildlife
Lots of shells and casings of dungeness crab and molecrab plus starfish on the low tide area. Lots of barnacle covered drift including small wood, kelps (esp. bullkelp) and some fishing debris.

Total dead birds: 1. Common Murre Adult
Stranded Marine Mammals
Total stranded mammals: 1. Partial skeletal remains of a sea lion.
Dead Fish or Invertebrates
Lots of dungeness crab remains, some casings, some from dead crab. The same for molecrabs. Lots of seagull pecked sand dollar casts.

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.), Shells, Wood pieces.
Actions & Comments
Lots of tracks on the beach from ATVs and OHVs. Some evidence of firewood gathering, a legal activity w/a permit from the BLM.

The humans were all riding southward along the tideline in four ATVs and one OHV.

It was a beautiful sunny, windless afternoon at the beach.

Thirty-seven humans were observed during the hour and one/half spent recording data on the 16 dead birds present(new birds included 9 Common Murre, 1 Northern Fulmar and 4 gulls and two birds were "refound" Common Murre).

Sharing the beach with other users is a pleasure when the vehicles, pets, and humans are under control and enjoying the same glorious weather.

The beach area appeared winter normal with wrack present high on the beach in places, and very thin, if any, surf line debris, mostly small wood and a few shells.
