Mile 121 - Gregory Point, Lighthouse Beach, Mussel Reef - September 19, 2009

Report Details

In-fill of sand above high-tide line except on extreme south end of beach. Quite a steep slant which I have never seen before on this beach. Seem to be more small caves in cliffs than I remember. Cormorant nests moving inland. More trees dying. No sign of any Osprey. Kelp/algae, wood pieces, plastic pellets and ocean-based debris in driftline. Less trash than usual. Lots of larger logs. Landslides and major cracks appearing in bluffs. Notable wildlife included gulls, fulmars, cormorants and a pelican. Shorebirds moving in response to humans. Moderate human impact (8)-8 walking and 1 jabbing stick into sand. 2 dogs.

Number of people: 9. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 8. Other Activities: 1, unsure. One man was jabbing a stick into the sand at or above the surf line. He was going at it so furiously I was afraid to ask him what he was doing. Any ideas?
