Report Details
Kelp/algae, small rocks and styrofoam in the driftline. Few shorebirds, crows and gull on dry sand. 1 dead Common Murre and 1 dead gull. There was not much activity -- human or otherwise -- on this intermittently rainy morning. Low human impact (2)-1 walking and 1 rockhunting. 1 dog. The only notable development was scattered pockets of gravel and rockbeds being uncovered basically from the southern mile boundary to about a half mile.

Temperature: 50 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 6.0 feet.

Number of people: 2. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 1. Some recreational walkers use the beach parking lot, though they don't usually walk the beach. That was the case today.

Notable Wildlife
Very few shorebirds were in evidence, perhaps because of the tide level and the rainy weather. No mammals were spotted offshore. A couple of crows and gulls on the dry sand were about all I spotted.
Beached Birds
Total dead birds: 2. One small murre, recently dead. One much depleted bird, probably a gull.

After finishing the walk and observing the family around their fire, I made my way to the park host/ranger station to report the illegal campfire.

A cloudy but calm morning saw just me and a few gulls on the beach, while about 20 cormorants, a pelican and other gulls flew offshore.

No one else was out on this calm morning after two days of extremely high surf--at least when we started north.
