Beach southeast of Battle Rock, north of Hubbard Creek
Saturday 10:15 AM
68° F
Calm/Light from the NW
Tide Level:
4.3 ft
Humans / Pets:
Walking / Running:
Playing in sand:
1 person was tending a camp or picnic site on the beach near Hubbard Creek.
Cars/Trucks parking:
RVs/Buses parking:
RVs/Buses parking: 1
Cars/Trucks on beach, allowed:
Activity Comments:
There was a camp set up next to a Jeep over by Hubbard Creek - may have just been a tent set up to get out of the wind. Didn't really see much in the way of camp gear. Only saw one woman outside - may have been more inside the vehicle or tent. Everyone was behaving, most were walking. Lots of dogs off leash, but none were misbehaving. Two kids were playing in the little creek that comes out near the wayside, and their parents were sitting watching them. I did see (but didn't count) a couple kids climbing Battle Rock.
Notable Wildlife:
Dead Birds:
Species unknown. Might have been a common seagull or muir.
Fish & Invertebrates:
Saw 3-4 little "fingerling" fish - about as long as a finger, but thin as a pencil, shiny silver. Looked like something I've seen in fish pet stores before.
Small rocks·Kelp or Algae·Shells·Animal casings (e.g. crab, shrimp molt)·Wood pieces
The crab casings were almost all backs, possibly molting. Only a couple had legs and signs of predatory damage. Minimal kelp and other flotsam. Beach was remarkably clean.
New Development:
Natural Changes:
None of the previously reported slides looked active. Most appeared to have vegetation beginning to grow back.

Beach was looking pretty clean of trash at the surf line and above in the dry sand. Hubbard Creek has "drifted" very far south/east, exiting much farther away than typical.

Beautiful day to be on the beach. Wind started out light, but by the time we got back to the wayside it was up to moderate. We only counted people on our way out from the parking lot, not on the way back.
