Report Details

The past several days, I have caught myself sniffing and smelling the air on Sunset Beach. I've got to say the ocean smells funny. Odd funny. At first I thought perhaps there is an oil spill out there somewhere, but that smell is not quite right. There is definitely a bit of an acidic bite to the air. The smell is subtle, and I doubt many would notice it, but since we are out there nearly every day, and I obsess about 'conditions' and 'variables' such as this, it's pretty obvious to me. Something is not right, or at least not normal. I don't know if it's because the ocean temperatures are up in the 60s and there's a huge plankton bloom, or if there is actually some sort of chemical spill out there, (or ???).

Conditions

Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: NW.
