a very pleasant day. Would be nice if the dog issue weren't an ongoing one. We personally were approached by a dog who was overfriendly, jumping up on us, with the owner at least 60 yards behind, with the dog not under voice control. we will keep monitoring the Ecola Outfall testing. The State will start testing again , hopefully before the end of this month.

Number of people: 177. Number of dogs: 19. Walking or running: 125. Playing in sand: 12. Sitting: 14. Photography: 1. Tidepooling: 23. Surfing: 2. peole were enjoying the dry and warm weather .Many dogs off leash, bothering other dogs ( on leashes) and walkers. Also chasing oystercatchers who were foraging in the driftline.

Notable Wildlife

the birds on Haystack Rock were engaging in mating activity, nesting and the eagles kept harassing them, also saw 4 Canada Geese joining the rocksitters

Seaweeds and seagrass, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Styrofoam, Wood pieces.

Actions & Comments

the sign placed in the creek warning people of possible contamination at the Ecola Outfall is still sitting at the seawall, where it isn't visible to people who do not access the beach at Gower street. Signs of kid activity in the creek and at the edge ( sandcastles, dams). We will remind the city to place the sign more visibly before the busy Memorial Day weekend.
