Very quiet for this time of year. We are just past the time when we have seen over 3000 school kids on the beach in the intertidal at Haystack Rock and before the summer rush begins. All will change this coming weekend with the advent of the annual event of Sandcastle and the only time of the year when cars are allowed on the beach here. The beach on this mile is clean, no dead birds and lots of sand has washed in.

Temperature: 60 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: S. Tide Level: 3.0 feet.

Number of people: 50. Number of dogs: 20. Walking or running: 45. Playing in surf: 5. Very quiet mid-week!

Disturbances: Shorebirds moving in response to humans/dogs

Notable Wildlife

Lots of birds flying around Haystack Rock and/or feeding in the intertidal -- tufted puffins, pelagic cormorants, pigeon guillomots, black oystercatchers, harlequin ducks, whimbrels, Pacific Western Gulls, common murres.......

There is tremendous sand build-up in the inter-tidal area surrounding Haystack Rock. This is typical for this time of year but dramatic nonetheless in the amount that has moved in covering "the cobbles" this past week and drastically altering the tidepools areas --
