Mile 313 - Tolovana Park north, Haystack Rock - August 21, 2020

Today was windy, mixed with rain. A steady 10-20 MPH wind from the SSW meant fewer people on the beach. Saw lots of juvenile gulls near Haystack Rock. The walk was beautiful, it is so great to have rain and cooler daytime temperatures for the first time in a couple weeks. Most notable thing from the walk was the human litter, especially along the dunes.

Temperature: 62 F. Cloud Cover: Rain. Wind Velocity: Strong. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 5.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 128. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 101. Playing in surf: 15. Sitting: 12. Litter was observed near the dunes, plastic toys etc. Did not see any face masks, likely because the wind is so strong today and yesterday they blew down the beach. Chairs were observed around a firepit outside a hotel, with no human occupants. Not sure if they belong to the hotel, or if they were left by visitors, I plan to look into it. Vehicles on the beach were the Cannon Beach lifeguards.
