Report Details

The minus tides brought out more people to walk, fish and dig clams. This year there is a lot more clam diggers. There was more sand this year than there has been for several years. The winter storms did not remove as much sand as usual. There were several sea stars with missing legs by Arch Cape but most of them looked healthy. see pictures. On the south end of Cove Beach (mile 306) there were almost no sea stars or mussels on the rocks. This is very unusual. The drift line had a lot of sand dollars and a few razor clam shells and crab casings. The 100 plus pelicans on Gull Rock is only unusual because of their early arrival. There was a seal skeleton on the rocks in May. The dark areas in the picture is the animal fat.

The wrack line contained small (2-4") crab casings, clam shells and broken sand dollars. There was a small land slide near a house drain line - see picture. The sand level was low on the north end of mile 307 which leaves the rocks uncovered.
