Area's population is growing. Lots of "ocean-close" houses are owned by weekenders. Locals are busy with issues such as affordable housing and working and school. Houses are being super-sized and more houses, condos and stores are being built. The beach is used by kite-flyers (fliers), wind-surfers, beach buggy renters, horseback riders, dog-walkers, walkers, runners, sitters, sand-castle builders, bonfire builders, and on and on. It is amazing how much of the time during the year it is so peaceful.

Temperature: 57 F. Cloud Cover: Partly Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SW. Tide Level: 3.0 feet.

Number of people: 22. Number of dogs: 6. Walking or running: 16. Playing in surf: 2. Playing in sand: 2. Sitting: 2. Photography: 4. people had walked onto beach from many points along the mile.
Concerns
Apparent violations: none, we saw only one water bottle as litter.
Notable Wildlife
no mammals, 6 flying pelicans, 250 gulls on beach in flock, 35 common murres flying low over ocean, 4 dbl crested cormorants flying , 2 song sparrows in beach grass,

Actions & Comments
Called city to check when saw bulldozers moving sand in April. Were told permit was re-issued and all is ok. Llooking into situation of continuing to use European beachgrass along coast. Dunes in state park south of dune work on Mile 299 are high. They would probably also loom up high in front of houses on Mile 299 if allowed to develop naturally.

A mild and pleasant day on Manzanita’s expansive beach. Photo 1: Runners are backlit by hazy sunshine that accents the shimmering highlights of the wet sand and low waves. Photo 2: This lion’s mane jelly measured 7” across and washed up on the beach without its tentacles but otherwise intact. Photo 3: A tiny uncarved pumpkin at water’s edge brings recent Halloween decorations to mind.
