This was one of those "jewel" winter days at the coast in Oregon.

This was one of those "jewel" winter days at the coast in Oregon. People were basking in the sun. Sitting in beach chairs or on the sand or on logs. Walking along.....playing with dogs and children. Waves were good sized but the ocean was calm. The sand was smooth without much to beachcomb. There were a few feathers and crab pieces and razor clam shells. Bits of seaweed and small sticks. We picked up the usual: an empty water bottle, a few candy wrappers, old pieces of plastic and plastic rope, cigar tips. Not much at all. Winter storms have left some big logs along the mile. See photo of the cottonwood. Someone has been harvesting firewood from logs. They get permission from city and/or state park.

Some people were in shorts/t-shirts. One young man, recently moved to Oregon (Beaverton) from Wisconsin, dove into the surf in his boxers. He pronounced the water "cold"!

A mild and pleasant day on Manzanita’s expansive beach. Photo 1: Runners are backlit by hazy sunshine that accents the shimmering highlights of the wet sand and low waves. Photo 2: This lion’s mane jelly measured 7” across and washed up on the beach without its tentacles but otherwise intact. Photo 3: A tiny uncarved pumpkin at water’s edge brings recent Halloween decorations to mind.
