Report Details

Mile 297: The sand has swept up the beach so that most of the high large logs are not visible. The gradual slope to the ocean is covered with bull kelp and small twigs brought in by high tides. Today the wrack was very thin and there was no human debris. One person we met had a big bucket full of garbage and indicated she comes out every week which is probably why we have found so little debris the last few months. The sand has covered any horse or dog tracks, although we did see one dog which was out with two of the four people strolling the beach. Only a couple flocks of small shorebirds and a few gulls worked the surfline. All seemed quite normal for this time of year. Four bird carcasses were found, just wings of a California Gull, and a dark morph Northern Fulmar and two Common Murres that were intact.
