Report Details

Sand and driftwood pile up on Mile 289 with the prevailing southerly winter winds. Erosion is not an issue on the beach. There is erosion on the jetty road (bayside) before the jetty turns westward. (after that, there is no road). Also at the start of the jetty at Kincheloe Point, erosion has washed away part of the road. A jetty warning sign is in danger of falling into the bay.

Conditions

Temperature: 40 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: SE. Tide Level: 5.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 4. Walking or running: 1. Sitting: 3. Did see full sized tire tracks. It is a non driving beach, but state parks, police, etc sometime drive to the jetty.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 16.

Notable Wildlife

bald eagle flew low across the foredune.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Shells, Small rocks, Styrofoam, Wood pieces. nothing unusual

Natural Changes

on bayside, erosion continues at the start of the jetty- south end of mile

Actions & Comments

The road on top of the jetty before it turns westward has several major sinkholes near the vehicle tracks. One in particular undermines the road. I did contact Tillamook Fire who uses the road for rescue purposes.
