Report Details

The solstice survey finds Mile 289 very clean and the recent history of sand build up continues.  Over the winter there was some minor dune erosion, but this is now completely erased.  New bright green vegetation is growing in front of the fore dune.Earlier Mile 289 had a great deal of ocean based debris.  There have been clean up efforts.  Truck loads of debris were hauled off the beach by volunteers from Tillamook Fire and hauled to the dump by State Parks.  Good job.  It was very clean beach on the solstice.  I only saw 1 large styrofoam piece,  probably too large to carry off by 1 or 2 people.

I saw so many different types of birds along the jetty, I'm no bird expert but I thought I saw pelicans, herons, cormorants, and sea gulls.
