2020

July 22, 2020 - EJD
This is a very beautiful mile of coast. I was able to walk the whole mile along the shore at low tide. There are enormous boulders all over the shore and major cracks in the cliffs. Some small sea...

2018

November 12, 2018 - yakinsea
No slides/erosion noted. Few birds though many gulls, a few cormorants, a few western and horned grebes, surf scoters, pigeon guillemots.  I saw a smattering of brown jellyfish and ochre sea stars....

2015

October 6, 2015 - yakinsea
It's been quite a while since I visited here, and it felt like visiting an old friend. After unsuccessfully trying to get other paddlers here, I ended up going solo again, which gives a much more...

2013

August 28, 2013 - yakinsea
I am combining three mile segments North, Tip, and South since I typically paddle the whole thing and no other reports are being filed currently. It was unusually warm, overcast with a warm, light...

2012

May 6, 2012 - yakinsea
Conditions:Sunny, 60 degree F, winds to 15 MPH from the N. Swell 4 ft. with some large waves against the N side of the cape. Many waterfalls spilling into the ocean from recent rains, many wispy...

2010

October 17, 2010 - yakinsea
This was a very beautiful day at a stunning spot that few see up close. The North side of Cape Lookout was rough with waves shooting white-water up 30ft in places. The South side, my mile, was so...
June 26, 2010 - yakinsea
Though my section is on the S. side, I paddled around from the N., starting at Cape Lookout State Park. The Cape looked in its normal, unspoiled condition. The bird life looked great this year, but...

2009

May 29, 2009 - yakinsea
Beautiful sunny day! This mile of coastline has unbroken basalt cliffs with bands of rock varying dramatically, including pillow tuft. Near the end of the cape, the rock is rich in voids, each...

2008

June 14, 2008 - yakinsea
All looked well - particularly with seemingly more numerous and healthier looking birds. No erosion noted. Rough conditions and more birds kept our kayaking farther off Cape Lookout.
  • View looking at the South aspect of large shallow cave at the tip of Cape Lookout.
  • Near the end of the cape in its considerable wind shadow.
