Report Details

The tide had been up to the grass line. Sand deposit was heavy, covering bottom three steps at 38th Street access. I found most of the birds above the wrack line, one in the wrack and two west of the wrack. There was a grouping of about 10 birds, arranged in a cluster, fronted by an arrangement of driftwood that may have been meant as a memorial to the birds. Two women said that they had seen an arrangement further north on their walk that formed a line. They guessed that it was either to help monitors see them or as a memorial.NOTE: I also found a 5-foot length and a foot length of rope, both covered with Japanese mussels.
