Report Details

April 15 in the afternoon was a clear, sunny day with winds 10 - 20 mph.  The bluffs that were evident for much of mile 238 in January were gone or smaller. There was a lot of fish netting and fish lines along the drift line, some of which was picked up and placed in a trash bag along with the typical pieces of styrofoam, plastic pieces, some water bottles and food-related trash. There was less trash on this trip than in January 2017. The most notable sight was a stranded Sea Lion which was reported.

Total stranded mammals: 1. There was a stranded male California Sea Lion a little north of mile 238, in the back of house #375 on Salesian Rd. The sea lion appeared to have a damaged left flipper and appeared somewhat emaciated according to the individual who received the report and picture of the Sea Lion. He rolled around in the surf as the water came in and out. Pictures were taken a report was filed. The Sea Lion was not at the same location the next morning.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Wood pieces, Styrofoam. Several pieces of netting along mile 238. A large bag of debris from the ocean, and a few water bottles were collected.

Natural Changes

Much of the bluff that was evident when I visited in January was eroded, possibly due to a recent storm.
