Report Details

I expected to find a lot more debris on this windswept beach. Perhaps it is all covered with sand. Gloriously clear day, perfect for poking about in search of treasures or clinkers.

Conditions

Temperature: 38 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: N. Tide Level: 5.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 5. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 5. Orderly

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 3. Common Murres. Disintegration indicates they have been there awhile

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Styrofoam, Wood pieces. An amazing lack of plastics; I picked up a small bag of bottles and caps, but saw none of the tiny pieces at the driftline

Man-made Modifications

New riprap or shoreline protection structures. Extension of riprap just south of Easy Street; no machinery, only boulders and evidence of recent sand trenching

Storm damage for this mile seems mostly at Laurel/Sijota; Morris Excavation has built a roadbed parallel to the bluff for equipment access; some erosion at World Mark, north of state park.
