Report Details

As I don't live here, there's a lot that I miss. However, I've been watching for some time the bluff erosion south of the Gleneden Beach State Park, from the north to south property lines of World Mark. Interesting exposure of "stuff" embedded in the cliffs. I shall attempt to send photos.

Conditions

Temperature: 50 F. Tide Level: 2.5 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 9. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 7.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 2.

Notable Wildlife

very little, though I did see a flock of sandpipers!

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Shells, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Wood pieces. very clean

Man-made Modifications

New riprap or shoreline protection structures. To the north, in mile 237, a large portion of bluff has fallen (near the north end of Laurel/close to Salishan border); heavy equipment is in place, working with boulders; To the south, in mile 236, there is ongoing erosion on the bluff at World Mark. Large vertical pipes, metal rods, even what looks like a large auger, have been embedded in the soil for probably years, and are now being exposed. No action being taken that I can see, though World Mark has cordoned off its stairway to the beach.

Natural Changes

Landslides/major boulder falls, Newly exposed roots/trees falling, Erosion of vegetated foredune.

Actions & Comments

I have taken no action, other than to photograph.

Storm damage for this mile seems mostly at Laurel/Sijota; Morris Excavation has built a roadbed parallel to the bluff for equipment access; some erosion at World Mark, north of state park.
