Report Details

"Emergency" riprap below Surfrider Motel still in place.  Upper layer of bluff being eroded by wave erosion and groundwater.  Illegal camping reported to State Parks.

Human Activities

Number of people: 18. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 5. Sitting: 5. Riprap below Surfrider is still in place under an emergency permit. No regular permit application has been filed even though the emergency permit was granted in February. I thought that there was a requirement to apply for a regular permit within a certain timeframe, but don't see it in the OARs or ORS.

Concerns

Apparent violations: Illegal camping above beach on private property adjacent to State Park property; reported to State Parks, Central Lincoln PUD that punched in an access road. They had a barrier for awhile but it was pushed out of the way. Severe rutting, loss of native vegetation..

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 8.

Notable Wildlife

Small pieces of seaweed in wide wrack line

Beached Birds

Saw the remains of a bird carcass on beach-- presumed killed by the pair of bald eagles commonly perching on a tree on the south side of the creek near the highway.

Driftline Content

Small rocks, Seaweeds and seagrass, Wood pieces, Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Styrofoam, Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). Lots of plastic debris this year; mostly water bottles and pieces of water bottles

Man-made Modifications

New riprap or shoreline protection structures. "Emergency" riprap below Surfrider Motel, placed in mid-Feb., 2010
