Report Details

I was three times at the beach. The times were 8:30AM (four hours before King Tide, 4.9 ft.), 10:30AM (two hours before King Tide, 8.65 ft,), and 12:26PM (10.5 ft.)The first two times I took pictures North and West from a point 45 ft. Southeast of normal entry to beach. At King Tide at 12:26PM I got picture to the North from that point--but had to time the waves. In order to get picture to the West, I slighty angled camera to WNW, and moved back another 40 feet to Southeast (total of 85 ft. from normal entry of beach in order to stay dry--wave came within 5 foot of that position.

Conditions

Temperature: 50 F. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: W. Tide Level: 10.5 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 1. Number of dogs: 1. Walking or running: 1. The person and dog were on the beach from about 8:30-8:45 heading north to 68th street exit. Toward the very end the person had to get on cobbles, as waves already fully on beach sand--still 4 hours to KingTide at 12:26PM.

Notable Wildlife

Just a few birds in the ocean just offshore.

Driftline Content

Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). Again, plastic pellets toward the southern end of the mile (at least near beach entrance walking down from 57th and Meander). I also picked up as trash some short lengths of plastic rope.

New Development

Drainage pipes. More erosion at the pipes.

Natural Changes

There was more erosion of the bluffs--but nothing major, just the continual breaking off of pieces of sandstone. There was also more driftwood--obviously from Tuesday, Jan. 2 King Tide.
