Report Details

It was a beautiful sunny morning with little wind. People were out enjoying the beach. At the northern end of my mile, at Agate Beach, the sand had been sculpted into wonderful natural sand castles along the edges of the damp and windswept miniature dunes. There were a number of dogs off leash, I noticed.

Conditions

Temperature: 40 F. Cloud Cover: Sunny. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Wind Direction: W. Tide Level: 3.7 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 29. Number of dogs: 8. Walking or running: 27. Other Activities: 2 Climbing on rock. At first when I began my walk, the beach was nearly deserted. More people came during the time I was on the beach.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 2.

Notable Wildlife

16 gulls, 2 large flocks of Canada geese flying over. One flock was close enough so that I could estimate 150 geese flying in a single vee.

Beached Birds

Total dead birds: 3. Two of the birds were common murres. The third I think was a common murre, but the carcass was in poorer condition with parts missing.

Dead Fish or Invertebrates

There were one or two moon jellies, but otherwise no intact animals.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Shells, Small rocks, Wood pieces. There was one sock. Otherwise, the beach was remarkably free of debris today.

Natural Changes

Below the condos near Jumpoff Joe the dunes are losing sand.
