Mile 217 - Newport, Nye Beach north, Agate Beach south - May 28, 2010

Report Details

I seldom go down to the beach this late in the day. I met only one person between my access point at Agate Beach Wayside and the rocks around Jumpoff Joe. The other 11 were at Jumpoff Joe and beyond. The beach was windswept and flat, and the tide was going out. The wrack line was sparse, but I noticed a variety of seaweeds and sea grass. It was breezy and overcast, but the walk was pleasant.

Temperature: 54 F. Cloud Cover: Cloudy. Wind Velocity: Moderate. Wind Direction: W. Tide Level: 5.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 12. Number of dogs: 2. Walking or running: 12. For a while I noticed vehicle tracks on the beach, but I didn't see the vehicle that made them. Children were running on sandy areas of bluffs and adults climbing on rocks near Jumpoff Joe. I was pleased to see a couple carefully examining the holdfast of kelp that had washed ashore which sheltered many barnacles.
