Mile 217 Report
January 3, 2009
It was a beautiful, sunny, still, winter day.
Report Details
It was a beautiful, sunny, still, winter day. People were enjoying the beach mostly by walking along it. There was quite a bit of wood on the beach (lumber, stumps, logs, little pieces), and other organic material such as shells and algae, including large kelp mounds, was also visible. When I first tried to get onto the beach from the Agate Beach Wayside, I was surprised that the side of the stream toward the ocean was a cliff about 4 or 5 feet high, so that I had to go along it a little way before I could cross. There was water standing on the beach, left there by the receding tide, and water also appeared to be running across the beach from the land in unexpected places. Note: This report covers a little bit of extra territory; it runs from Agate Beach Wayside to Nye Beach Turnaround.
Human Activities
Number of people: 31. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 28. Other Activities: standing on exposed rock with binoculars: 3. People were enjoying the beach mostly by walking today. It was much busier at the Nye Beach end of my walk than at the Agate Beach end, where there were only a few people.
