This is our first winter in Newport. Our Mile 217 is a dynamic area constantly changing due to King Tides, Winter Storm and heavy rainfall.

Conditions

Temperature: 50 F. Wind Velocity: Calm/Light. Tide Level: 6.0 feet.

Human Activities

Number of people: 20. Number of dogs: 5. Walking or running: 18. Sitting: 2. Talked with State Park Maintenance person who regularly services the area. He talked at length about problem of homeless camps in this section of the beach. It was primarily the human feces and other debris that caused him constant heartache. His explained that this constant challenge has worn down his patience.

Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Marine debris (plastic, styrofoam, etc. washing in from the sea), Ocean-based debris (from fishing boats, ship trash, etc.). Large clump of heavy duty rope picked up by State Parks - see picture

A large swath of the bluff is well vegetated with shore pines, willow and native shrubs like silverweed, and black twinberry.
