Report Details

The beach at low tide was wide, wet, and mostly empty (except at the access points, and particularly the Nye Beach end). The sand had been blown into close, shallow ridges, giving it a corrugated effect; in the low places, water stood behind each little ridge. There was a driftline high on the beach with large logs and the occasional clump of seaweed. The drift line contained almost all organic materials.Note: This report contains a little more than a mile of territory. It runs from Agate Beach Wayside to Nye Beach Turnaround.

Human Activities

Number of people: 38. Number of dogs: 11. Walking or running: 30. Playing in surf: 3. Playing in sand: 3. Sitting: 2. Most people were enjoying the beach by walking. A few children were playing on the beach, one with a small pail and spade.

Vehicles

Cars/trucks parking: 29.

Notable Wildlife

Wildlife was limited to gulls and crows.

Driftline Content

Seaweeds and seagrass, Animal casings (e.g., crab, shrimp molt), Land-based debris (picnics, etc.), Shells, Wood pieces. There was very little debris, and it was mostly at the access points

Natural Changes

Newly exposed roots/trees falling.

Actions & Comments

In a few places where dead wood is visible on the bluffs, some of it had begun to make its way down to the sand, and a couple of pieces had come all the way down. Otherwise, new erosion was limited to the inevitable loss of sand on sandy bluffs.
